Our Curriculum
In recognition of our changing pupil profile the Dove House Academy curriculum is currently under significant review and redesign. The below outlines our vision for the first stage of this development which will be implemented from September 2024. Our current curriculum policy is available on request - please email admin@dovehouse-academy.net
At Dove House Academy we provide a broad and balanced curriculum to pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Our curriculum is rooted in our school vision:
Making a difference… now and for the future
And as a result, has carefully considered the flight paths of our pupils and the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to be successful now and in their future lives at college, in the workplace, as active citizens within their community.
Our curriculum is built on a pathway model, with pupils following one of three pathways:
Peregrine Pathway: A class-based pathway for pupils with complex SEMH needs and learning difficulties. A particular emphasis is put on emotional regulation, communication and developing healthy relationships.
Merlin Pathway: A class-based pathway for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. A particular emphasis is put on reducing anxiety and barriers to learning through routines, visual structure and a total communication approach. Learning is multi-sensory, practical and rooted in real world functionality.
Kestrel Pathway: A ‘Secondary Model’ pathway for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties. A particular emphasis is put on the holistic development of pupils whilst providing highly personalised specialist teaching, that supports the development of the skills required to achieve qualifications and to prepare pupils for further education and the workplace.
